The encryption method for Pelco Consulting myJobs is an alphanumeric replacement whereby each letter, number and special character is assigned a key. Upon saving the data of an encrypted field, each character in the field is replaced with the key and saved into the database. This type of encryption allows for system users to log in and view the data in plain text while ensuring the security of the information in the database.

This is what is known as a two-way encryption and while there is nothing that is totally unhackable, having encryption makes the theft of your data much more difficult and essentially requires the hacker to steal your entire system and not just the database.
